Private Joseph Barnes

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present. He may have been the Joseph Barnes shown on the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour as living at 14 Alloa Street, Belfast, worshipping in the Agnes Street Congregation, and serving in the North Irish Horse.

Joseph Barnes enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 11 June 1917 (No.2482 – later Corps of Hussars No.71861). During 1918 he embarked for France, though whether this was before he transferred to the Royal Irish Rifles is not known.

Barnes transferred to the Royal Irish Rifles in April 1918 (No.22540), and to the Royal Irish Fusiliers (posted to the 1st Battalion) in September that year (No.42387).

On 29 January 1919 he was discharged due to wounds (paragraph 392 (xvi) King's Regulations).
